Tribute to Master Hsing Yun
“the philosophy of being the second ”
Buddhism says that all dharmas are dependent on each other, so dharmas are equal. Each dharma can be the "oldest" or "secondary", depending on how you look at it. How can safflower look charming if it is not surrounded by green leaves? If the protagonist does not have the foil of many supporting roles, he will not be able to show his importance. Therefore, the green leaves and supporting roles actually have a pivotal position. Being the "boss" and being able to lead the group is great; being the "second" and being able to achieve others is also great. Historically, Xiang Yu conquered the world, but it turned out that Liu Bang won the world; Chen Youliang first ruled the roost on his own, conquering the north and south, but later it was Zhu Yuanzhang who unified the overall situation and sat on the throne. There is no need to force things in the world, as long as the karma is sufficient, it will happen naturally.
老二哲学
佛法說萬法相互緣起，故法法平等，每一法都可以是「老大」，也可以都是「老二」，但看你以什麼角度去觀察。紅花如果沒有四周的綠葉圍繞，怎能顯得嬌媚動人？主角假使沒有諸多配角的陪襯，也表現不出他的重要性來。所以綠葉、配角其實都有著舉足輕重的地位。做個「老大」，能夠領導群倫，固然很好；作個「老二」，去成就別人，也很偉大。歷史上，項羽打天下，結果竟是劉邦得天下；陳友諒先自立稱雄，南征北討，後來卻是朱元璋統一大局，坐上王位。世事不必強求，只要因緣具足，自能水到渠成。
